Divining a problem of structure and creative drive with Thor's Hammer.
Using a quadriform or arrowhead aspect configuration to work through transiting Saturn square Mars.

19-20-21 December 2016

Challenging aspects serve as spurs to development, but they tend to present in the form anxiety or fear of a troubling nature. When such troubles become disabling, when they interfere with creative process, impede understanding or thicken the air with dysphoria I am engaged, impelled to analyze, identify roots, take apart and rectify. There are several ways to do this, of course. I won't describe them here. But one of my preferred approaches is astrological analysis.

Transiting Neptune and Saturn have been engaging radical Saturn for some time now, respectively, by opposition and square. tSaturn recently squared Juno, and is moving toward exact square with Mars (~ 16.01.17), but that's already being felt. Time to identify and analyze the factors at play. The matters most often necessitating change have bearing on self- or group-concept, characteristics and contributing orientations, adjustments to our rede of beliefs and psychophilosophical perspective. All of this bears on our course of action, the activities we choose to pursue or otherwise must, and attitude.

tSaturn-5 initially squared Saturn-3, and now squares Mars-3, challenging egoic structures and frustrating creative drive. Treating these as descriptors of dynamics at play in the plurality of personality, we need to identify what structures are challenged and the underlying motivation(s), attachments, investments at play in the frustrated drive.

Our methodology, in this case, is to map the Mars-3:tSaturn-5 square, then run 135° aspects from each planet, noting their convergence as we create a quadriform configuration — 135°-90°-135°. We elaborate factors at each angle, identify relevant and resonant stars, asteroids, Lots, midpoints, other placements, loci, and associations. We also treat the 135° confluence as focus, as with the 150° focus of a YOD, and its opposite point as apical, directing or thematicizing the thrust of the effort.*

The following is our result.

*Note the Dragon's Eye at mid-right in the worksheet. There are different ways to conceive this symbol; for instance, the 'Y' may be construed as a choice between 'good' and 'evil'. We prefer a different interpretation. Inverted, as with the quadriform aspect formation, the 'Y' may be read as two forces becoming one, a synthesis; and the upward equilateral triangle, a projective force. In any case, the Dragon's Eye is a protective symbol.

24-28 December 2016

This next chart follows from the previous, to show zones of engagement in the quadriform configuration, here construed as a central feature in the radix.

Of particular interest are the apical and focal regions, 4/10, inasmuch as we're assessing matters pursuant to those houses.

But as we see from the YOD formed along the transiting Nodal axis, with Ketu (to be followed by Pallas and Venus) conjunct Jupiter, belief systems are being tested in pragmatic terms.

The quadriform process clearly goes to the Jupiterian transformation.

Key nakshatras are also shown, of thematic interest.

Arts and Astrology: Seeing through and deeper view.
Development of an operational map of self-sense and action in a gestalt of multiple principals,
with perceptual revelation in egoic function.

13-17 December 2016

Building outward, reading from the aspect patterns at center, to the planets and points of the main ring, then to the stars and nakshatras indicated without, develop-
ment of the chart at left becomes a therapeutic means of working through, dealing with irrupting anxiety and structural confusion. The process of cognitive mapping in this sense serves to detach from investment, recenter and introspect, hear, see, and reconstrue with due cognizance of the group and root, attaining a deeper view of reality.

The exercise aims to better apprehend nature, orientation and path in gestalt, as indicated these past several weeks, during this time of transition, but what is most acutely observed, in the very act of identifying what there is to do, is how we do it, the shared workings of the group, the process of identifying and agreeing on what points, placements and patterns to choose. In the evolution of egoic function, we have shifted from focused media-
tion of ostensible disputes, differences of perspective or expressive transmutes in the group, to concerted effort in pursuit of a blueprint otherwise hidden from view.

This is a map of both discovery and intention, somewhat akin to a collage in the sense that the elements which comprise it present a whole that is greater than the sum, but there's another part of the process not thus described, and that is the sense of being led, guided to the the conclusion. This goes to the experience of immanent presence and core ordination. Apperceiving the deeper order...

At the moment, in this place at this time, what we see represents a good operational map of self-sense and action...

Note, among other things:

  • Almuten Figuris: Venus (conjunct MC-10, tredecile AC-1, novile MercuryR-11, binovile Uranus-12, septseminovile Identity-5).
AK: Sun; AmK: Rahu; BK: Mars; MK: Mercury... Chara Karakas vary with chart type and values entered, selected ayanamsa, e.g.
Singletons: Neptune AIR, Jupiter Social House, Universal Sign.
  • YOD kite Lilith focus (conjunct Almach/Menkar) in Bharani, with apex and T-square work-through at Pallas/ID conjunct Alpha and Delta Librae in Vishakha.
  • Activity: Mars-3 (conjunct Pythia, Alkes, Astraea) and Identity-5 YOD focused at transiting Uranus-10 → Revati/Ashwini shift; Mars/ID focus moving to Al Rescha (heliacal rising), with the Spica/Nekkar apical theme Chitra, Tvashtar, Celestial Architect.
  • Two minor grand trines form service pattern, focused at Dhanishtha, The Eight Vasus.
  • Transiting Pluto exactly conjunct Nepththys-6 Lady of the House, and Al Thalimaim Prior (Aquila).
Transiting Saturn almost conjunct ChironR and Hygeia-5, Jyeshtha → Mula (2.17), approaches square Mars-3 and trine tUranus-10 (Ashwini/Revati transition of Mars/ID focus).

Assessing Nature, Orientation and Path
Selected parans and aspect formations in a cognitive mapping of identity and path of action, age 66 years, 5 months, 5 days.

17-21 October 2016

I have eschewed the Placidean and a few other systems of house division in work with the radix when placements of planets and points prove problematic, are intrapsychically dystonic, generate identificatory dissonance, impede productive framing of the psychoemotional issues we need to work through. We've found Regiomontanus of particular utility in recent studies, though we compare findings from different systems in each case. Except in limited contexts, certain thought experiments for instance, Placidus has not been an apposite system for our radix. Until now...

In this brief, Placidus affords results perfectly in keeping with our objective, which involves elucidation of an overview in ego-Self relation, in the plurality of personality, nature, orientation and course of action in gestalt — at this particular period of development.

One of the main shifts in house placements during the Regiomontanus work resulted in Moon-10, Mercury R-10/11, and Sun-11. These loci remain sensible. A syntonic read requires Pluto-1, Rahu-9/Ketu-3, Saturn-3 and Mars-3, Uranus-12, and so on. But until we adopted the birth time of 09:32:13 CST, a solar adjustment of some 23'13" from the recorded time on the birth certificate, this array or suite of placements could not be achieved with Placidus,.

Now, it can. With the result that the solar stellium is entirely in the 11th. That's of particular importance at this stage, not because I'm suddenly less the hermit and participate in a vast network of social acquaintences but rather, because awareness makes evident the transpersonal connectedness of the network I experience internally, among gestalt principals.

The cognitive map below is a better rendering of this occurence than my words might allow. There is a great deal of information contained in this simple illustration. The exercise has been, continues to be very rewarding.

5-18 September 2016

I retired with a sense of completion after publishing the August study on adjustments to the radix, but ideas of Porrima (Caphir) recurred throughout the night, prompting further study in the morning.

Porrima [γ Virginis] is a white binary, m=2.74, in the waist of the constellation Virgo. Carmenta (Carmentis), a Roman divinity of healing, procreation and prophecy, had attributes — they were later regarded as sisters or attendants, as distinct beings, to whom expectant mothers prayed and made sacrifice) called Porrima (aka Prorsa, Proversa, or Antevorta, 'head first'), and Postvorta (aka Postverta, 'feet first'), invoked by pregnant women in childbirth for either of the two positions in which a baby might be born. With respect to prophecy and divination the terms also refer to knowledge of the future and past.

This following chart is the result of further study, and is built upon the discovery of a quadriform matrix formed in the core of a radix predicated on the August adjustment, but here expanded to include

  • additional stars at the natal horizon or meridian; selected stars rising, setting, in culmination or lower culmination;
  • Pleiades Cluster: M45LongitudeDeclination

    constellations of particular indentificatory importance
    — e.g.:
  • Arabic Lots bearing on matters of identity and course in plural personality and egoic evolution in the experience of immanent presence.

Additional insight regarding the quadriform matrix is afforded by the nakshatras shown in the outer circle. Six nakshatras are highlighted with reference to the quadriformations, but all are helpful in assessing these new additions to our cognitive framework and mapping.

Note, e.g.:

  • The focus on Spica-4, in Chitra, at the midpoint of Mars-3 and
    the Lot of Identity-4/5.
  • Amun-11, in Rohini.
  • Nephthys-6 amidst Aquila and Vega in Purva Ashadha.
  • Venus/Vesta-10 conjunct MC in Revati;
    Apollo/Typhon-9/10, Rahu-9 in Uttara Bhadrapada;
Ketu-3 and Porrima/Vindemiatrix-3/4 conjunct IC in Hasta.
  • Mars/Astraea/Alkes in Uttara Phalguni.

More on Rahu/Ketu N/S bendings,
key natal aspect formations, and current transits.
A deeper look at points of transition.

18-19 July 2016

Following closely upon the two immediately previous, this entry presents a closer look at the Rahu and Ketu "bendings", square both lunar nodes. The region of the South Bending is 90° (± 3-5° orb) clockwise from Rahu, since the mean (which we use, rather than the more wonky 'true') nodes move anticlockwise, backward through the zodiac. The region of the North Bending is found 270° (± 3-5° orb) clockwise from Rahu.

We're using Placidus, a system of house division long eschewed because particular house place-
ments proved inapposite in my case, but which delivers useful results with the birth time shift to 09:32:13 CST (+ 23'13", a solar adjustment we apply for calcula-
tions going forward) : e.g., Pluto now presents as it should in the 1st, but is proximal to and influencing the 2nd. The angles and Lots work much better for our purposes. Clockwise read of the houses also affords insight.

Regions of nodal bending are highlighted and the grand square is evident, as are selected supporting patterns, especially YODs, kites and aspect series, including noviles, quintiles, and septiles. Regional conjunctions include
Uranus/Osiris-12 at North, Lachesis-6 (Gk: Λάχεσις, Lakhesis, "the Apportioner of Lots", second of the three Morai, who assigns fate, who carries a staff with which she points to the horoscope on a globe) at South bending. Note that the Lot of Spirit is a Rahu/Ketu work-through, squaring apical Ptah-10 and thus engaging Jupiter-8 | Pallas Rx-4 | Uranus/Osiris-12 kite. A YOD kite is formed with Rahu-9/Ketu-3 axis, Jupiter-8 and Uranus/Osiris-12 at wings.

Neptune is AIR singleton here, read as conjunct Ketu via the IC mid-between.
Venus Almuten Figuris is closely conjunct the MC and similarly Rahu.
Jupiter, leading planet in the locomotive pattern and first slow-mover to rise before the Sun (Atmakaraka),
is also a singleton, septseminovile both Neptune Rx and Sun.

Not shown in this illustration but studied during this brief is the large number of conjuncting transits (including Saturn)
to the South Bending in early 2018.

Worksheet exploring planetary nodes,
Rahu/Ketu bendings, patterns and transits.

11-16 July 2016
Write-up on the 19th.

Worksheet exploring planetary nodes, Rahu/Ketu bendings, patterns and transits for 15.07.16.

Once again I'm amazed by the free online chart-creation services provided by Astrodienst. Recent additions include a long list of ayanamsas, and I've just discovered the "Anglo", shown here, among the many chart drawing styles available. I've benefited greatly from these services over the years, relied on their calculations to create innumerable charts, used Photoshop to adapt them as desired. Thank you, Astrodienst! And while I'm at it, thank you too Anatoly Zaytzev, for Zet Lite, an exceptional freeware tool, which I always use in parallel. And thank you P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, for the amazing JHora freeware.

I have not found the planetary nodes of much utility in this analysis, nor in predictive terms. Perhaps in time...

But the work led me to the Bendings (see references in the subsequent brief), and there are in fact certain discoveries of note in that regard, where nodes present in the region of the North Bending. The NJupiter node is conjunct Uranus, for example, as is NVesta — all in Ardra Nakshatra, ruled by Rahu and Mercury.

As tMars-8 opposed the stellium-11, a brief transit in February this year but again in play since mid-June and tentatively construed as the root of my disquiet, chart comparisons among Trop Helio, Trop and Sid Geo proved useful in the effort to work through. I felt compelled to withdraw from everything and focus more intensely on the work. The Sid Geo chart shown here presents a preferred format, an ego-syntonic representation, but was, alas, of little practical use in resolving the accompanying dysphoria. On the way to breakthrough, however, which involved discovery of Lachesis in the South Bending (see the next brief), the Trop Helio chart made evident two matters in particular, and one already known, that afforded food for thought:

Jupiter square Moon   |   Venus square Mars   |   Saturn square Chiron

tVenus stood conjunct Pluto; tNephthys opposed Mars; and tSaturn neared Chiron.

Lachesis was found sextile Jupiter and Mars in a minor grand trine.

The kite formation was prominent, with Neptune at apex, Ptah at focus, Pluto and Chiron at wings.

And in Trop Helio, Pluto is FIRE singleton as well as Atmakaraka. Saturn is MUTABLE singleton and Atmakaraka among septener planets. These thoughts proved ordinating.

Transiting Neptune opposition Saturn square tSaturn trine MC-Venus
With associated transits and formations of impact during this period, especially the Pluto/NeptuneR YOD on the tRahu/Ketu axis. And Lot of WORD as apex of a quintile kite formation with Lilith/PoF focused at ChironR.

7-10 July 2016

Transiting Neptune opposes Saturn and both square tSaturn, which trines MC-Venus. Feelings are fuzzy, but most salient in the mass appears to be uncertainty regarding what to do. No doubt there's a tMars tension there too, opposing the stellium. As transiting Mercury Sun Venus journey the 12th, I feel restrained and restricted with respect to physical work and production, my torn Achilles' tendon, financial insecurity, and a generalized sense of futility, or, more fuzzily, a sensed withdrawal, an absence of drive, a disconnect from the desire to create or participate in this reality. I have to assess the structure of this ... or get a handle on the deconstructure.

And there is indeed a great deal at play. The tNeptune opposition Saturn square tSaturn formation shown at right stand in close relation to the transiting Rahu/Ketu axis. tNeptune is now retrograde in Shatabhisha Nakshatra, but will join
tKetu in Purva Bhadrapada in Novem-
ber 2016. tRahu will conjunct Saturn in Hasta in early September.

I'm getting into this.
Internal communication is clear,
strong. I feel grounded, engaged.

And next comes the discovery of WORD, the Lot (aka Art, or Treasure), conjunct Amun-11, at the apex of both a quintile YOD and trine kite focused ChironR-5 (or in the 8th, if we're reading houses clockwise — which works very well here).

Note the YOD kite formed on the tRahu-2/11—tKetu-8/5 axis, with Pluto-1/12 and NeptuneR-4/9 at wings.

And the YOD to Jupiter focus, with Spirit-1/12 and Ketu-3/10 at wings.

In this period of tSaturn-5/8 trine MC exactitude and following, many people approach to talk about personal issues... Chart analyses are provided, and more. The transit remains in play, and returns to exactitude in mid-September this year.

and other matters of interest at the 66th solar return.

9-26 May 2016

These days in radix studies we work with three different birth times, 23'13" before and after the recorded time of 09:09 CST. The earliest (08:45:47) is the Solar equivalent of the recorded time, which is the Solar equivalent of the latest time, 09:32:13 CST — the time we're using here to assess the leading-edge in psychophilosophical perspectives and developmental initiatives going forward.

The Worksheet we've created is a rather complicated cognitive map that addresses a host of issues bearing on a fundamental shift in egoic awareness and operation. I feel this at a fundamental level, understand it as a transmutation, and experience it existentially as if half here, half in another dimension, strangely 'out-of-time'.

This Journal has been in many respects an attempt to illustrate internal process. With regard to the astrological components of Shenjiva, the briefs and studies serve as work-throughs for me and clearly indicate, I think, the utility of chart assessment in eliciting insight and elucidating concepts consistent with personality and psychospiritual orientation. One might pursue such work in this line of enquiry alone, or, as was intended at the beginning and expressed in the poem on opening page of the site, explore a broad range of arts.

This exercise has made evident the need to leave the monastery.

  1. Neptune is AIR singleton in this trop geo chart — cf. Saturn, FIRE singleton in sid geo Druva/GC at mid-Mula for example, and Pluto, FIRE singleton in helio trop), and tNeptune is of chief concern in this exercise as it opposes natal Saturn May 2016 through February 2018. The transits of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto also figure prominently in this period, but tNeptune remains the focus at play. Using Koch and reading clockwise we note that tNeptune-5 engages the 3rd and 1st while opposing Saturn-11, which describes an intrapsychic or internally apprehended 'network' in my case, with limited social contact. That style of life is being challenged by tNeptune, or apperceived in different terms, in scales anew.

    • tNeptune [Shatabhisha, ] is conjunct Anubis-5 tridecile Lot of Identity as well as Pranapada Lagna in the 9th, Scorpio [Vishakha, Jupiter], moving toward trine [Purva Bhadrapada, Jupiter]. Note that Arudha Lagna is closely conjunct Anubis-5.

    • We see a binovile-quintile-YOD formation, illustrated in yellow. The focus of this formation (15°25'13" Pisces) [PBhad, Jupiter] is currently a few degrees counter-clockwise tNeptune which, through several periods of retrograde, remains in close proximity thereto through December 2019 and beyond. The focus is bracketed by Zeta Pegasi (aka Homan) and Ankaa (a star on the neck of the Phoenix, cf. Bennu Bird). The House is 5, ruled by Neptune.

    • Lot of Destiny-3 (conjunct Vesta and Venus) [Revati, Mercury] is sextile the focus and trine Pluto-12, part of the core kite formation focused on Venus-3. The art is communicating. Deity: Pushan, the Nurturer. Moksha.

    • tUranus-3 is focus of a YOD between Mars-10 [Uttara Phalguni, Sun] and Identity-9. It is also trine Pluto-12 and closely engaging Vx-8/AVx-2. The impacts here are financial is conjunction with communication initiatives.

  2. tPluto-7 [Purva Ashada, Venus], midway between tNetune and Identity, also engages both Saturn-11 [Purva Phalguni, Venus and Lilith-3 [Bharani, Venus], moving toward trine with Moon|MerR|Sun-3 [Krittika, Sun].

  3. tSaturn-8 [Jyeshtha, Mercury] squares tNeptune-5 and Saturn-11 but trines Venus-3 [Revati, Mercury] and Pluto-12 [Ashlesha, Mercury].

    • tSaturn in House 8
Thoughts of mortality are prominent during this period. Matters of diet, digestion, circulatory and biomechanical issues present with increasing frequency and exhibit a variability I find confounding. Some capacity to focus is retained in assessing and addressing these problems, and in certain respects I am discovering the body anew. But I'm also confused, cut loose from role performance, now needing to communicate in a different way, not in the less direct manner I am wont to relate. In terms of identity and intrapsychic organization, cathartic transitions are mark familiar cycles of death and rebirth. The current sense is physically intimate, and I have the distinct impression I am accompanied by a Shadow presence, who takes my arm, guides me, in transition, half-in half-out the space I normally inhabit, immanent presence overseeing. Anubis. Amun.

    • Finances have always been a matter of concern, though never really addressed beyond achieving conditions and circumstance that enable maintenance of an essentially independent, minimalist lifestyle and the freedom to pursue my work. Acquiring money, in and of itself, has never been a priority. Lack of money limits opportunity to explore certain avenues of enquiry I might like to pursue, but priority goes to identifying the deeper desire at issue, so much of what kama irrupts is observed and analyzed, reduced and ruled out. When I have money, however, impulsive behavior often results in depletion of funds to the point that existence becomes more ascetic than minimalist — as if having fewer options (or distractions) is a preferred state. Yet there's a continuous undercurrent of anxiety with respect to pecuniary security and stability, and this becomes acute in such ascetic periods. In positive terms, that serves to sharpen creative focus and discipline. The circumstance is deeply upsetting, but I can change my condition by analyzing the anxiety, working it through — actions which inevitably lead to a new avenue of study or creative pursuit. In the absence of a more embracing psychophilosophical understanding of money, however, or of place in the universe, of belonging to as opposed to being in, the basic concern is not removed. It is used, but not transcended.

    • Chariklo R, Ceres R, Vx and Chiron R are in the 8th [Jyeshtha, Mercury; Artha, material prosperity], as is the Galactic Center [Mula, Ketu; Kama, desire], all conjunct by extension. And tSaturn holds court here through December 2017. We have been treating of the GC as the Sun's Sun, as the ultimate focus of the chart. I appreciate all of this in terms of the individual within the collective, even as egoic function among multiple principals in gestalt under aegis of immanent presence — which is to say, the intrapsychic or internally apprehended collective. But as tSaturn-8 traverses the Sagittarius complement, simultaneously engaging NeptuneR-9, Pluto-12 and Venus-3, we have opportunity to work at the practical reality in terms of interpersonality. Still walking with Death, I'm not quite sure what that means.

    • tSaturn-8Sagittarius squares tNeptune-5Pisces and Saturn-11Virgo, but both tSaturn and tNeptune aspect tPluto-7Capricorn [Purva Ashada, Venus and, in 2017, Uttara Ashada, Sun], which trines Moon/MercuryR/Sun-3 and (Saturn-11)Juno/Mars-10. tNeptune is sextile tPluto. tSaturn-8 and tPluto-7 are undecile (L. undecim, eleven; aka elftile = 32.75°) at the solar return, and they remain connected in a series of significant minor aspects through 2020 and beyond, strongly affecting the radix in trines from the 8th and 7th to the 3rd, 11th and 10th.

In a unsourced passage attributed to Michael Freedman (nom-de-plume of Michel Corbold) [and see related work here and here], we read that the basic principle of the undecile series (32.75°, 65.45°, 98.2°, 130.9°, and 163.65°)1 is "the need for a capacity to reconcile opposites or dualities" as in the practice of ritual magic, which is filled with double-binds that require you "to go ahead on your journey and maintain your balance, despite having only ambiguous maps as a guide and traveling through shifting mists and over unsteady ground". Some read the undecile as indicative of "psychic gifts"2 or heightened intuition or a science-minded approach, especially when the aspect affects the 3rd, 9th, 10th and 11th.3

From a numerologic perspective Hans Decoz writes that the Master Number 11

[...] represents instinct, and is the most intuitive of all numbers. It is your connection to your subconscious, to gut feeling and knowledge without rationality. Because the 11 has all the qualities of the 2 (since 1 + 1 = 2), the negative points of the 11 — anxiety, shyness, stressed energy — are balanced out by the 2's qualities of charisma and inspiration. 11 is the dichotomy number, meaning it is both extremely conflicted and also a dynamic catalyst.

The danger of the 11 is that it needs to be focused on a very specific, concrete goal. If you have 11 in your chart and it isn't attached to a specific project, you will most likely experience anxiety and fear. It's extremely powerful and capable of great things, but can also be extremely self-sabotaging when not used correctly.

Undecile aspects are not uncommon. Several of them present in the radix, and all planets and points in these combinations figure prominently in chart dynamics.

      Saturn-Neptune ⦿ Uranus-Spirit ⦿ Uranus-Isis ⦿ Pluto-Juno ⦿ Venus-Lilith(T) ⦿ Lilith(T)-MC

For example, we know that in sidereal Dhruva Galactic Center at mid-Mula, e.g., Pluto is AK as planet of highest degree and NeptuneR is AmK, whilst Saturn is AK by traditional read and is also FIRE singleton. We've already seen that NeptuneR is AIR singleton in trop geo, and Pluto is Fire singleton in helio trop. Uranus is parallel Pluto and quintile Saturn. Venus is Almuten Figuris and focus of the core kite. Lilith trines Saturn and Nephthys, and is focus of an Identity kite in the Origen chart. Rahu/Ketu square Uranus but trine/sextile Spirit, making it the work-through, and Spirit is tredecile Identity. And so on... They're each important, but of different nature and impact, so the pairings present something of a dichotomy which necessitates a blending of energies.

Saturn-11Virgo and NeptuneR-9Libra, for instance: structure and boundary vs. boundary dissolution and transcendence, or ratiocination vs. inspiration, separation vs. mergence, etc. Response to this combination might be analysis of received input to achieve a psychophilosophical synthesis contributing to the stability of self-concept in the intrapsychic community and its artful self-expression as a unity.

In a similar sense tSaturn-8Sagittarius and tPluto-7Capricorn might suggest a different view of collective values relative to personal rights and freedoms, with assumption of responsibility in pragmatic terms affecting partnership and social order, hierarchy, laws, etc. Response to this tSaturn-tPluto undecile, as it engages key patterns in the radix, will obviously lead to greater contact, new avenues of experience and venues for expression of the group; the primary stressor might be anticipated to involve acting in the absence of a consciously apprehended plan. Somewhat difficult to frame while in process, this egoic transmutation appears to involve a different understanding of the social milieu, of interpersonality, referring to what is created through interaction. Given the several YOD formations with 8th-House focus to the Sagittarius complement, ChironR and the Galactic Center, transpersonality might be the more appropriate term, because the psychophilosophical shift goes to the greater whole and interconnectedness. It doesn't really matter at this stage. I don't understand it yet. I'm working to analyze a dissolution in progress, and, nonetheless aware of immanent presence, I'm not really sure what's happening ... except that it is.

    • tSaturn-8/7 and tUranus-3 move in and out of trine during this period, exact in December 2016 (@ 20°30' SagittariusAries) and again in September 2018 (~ 2°25' CapricornTaurus). tSaturn-8 opposes Uranus-2 [Ardra, Rahu; Rudra; kama] in January 2018, tUranus will trine the GC in March, and tSaturn will again oppose Uranus-2 in September, that year. I'm pretty much working day-to-day at the moment, but that tSaturn locus would form a grand square with Rahu/Ketu and Uranus... Meh. tPluto-7 round then is [Uttara Ashada, Sun; Ten Vishvadevatas, Moksha] trine the stellium and Mars, sextile Identity, quinundecile (163.65°), quindecile (165°) Spirit.

  4. tJupiterR remains in separating conjunction with Saturn-11 [PPhal, Venus] and will enter the 10th about 3 July 2016, then to conjunction with Mars-10 [Uttara Phalguni, Sun] in August; it will simultaneously trine the Taurus stellium-3 (Kritikka, Sun]. Saturn inconjunct Venus
Part of a key dynamic that bears on the work we do.
An integrative assessment of the tropical radix, kite formations and aspects analysis, sidereal findings,
clockwise Koch Houses, Chara Karakas in both charts, nakshatras, and transits.

24-30 April 2016

Clockwise read of Koch Houses in the radix right reveals an inconjunction1,2 between Saturn-11 and Venus-3.

In representation of an arc of ascendancy using three related birth times we find three Lots of Identity
(AC +Sun-Moon), each also linked with
Venus chiefly, and Saturn too.

In the previous study of clockwise houses we used the sidereal chart, Galactic Center at mid-Mula, and, in traditional terms, identified Saturn as Atmakaraka (AK), Venus as Amatya-
karaka (AmK). As planets of highest degree in that same chart, Pluto and Neptune also were recognized as AK and AmK respectively, and paired, in
that capacity, with Saturn and Venus.

We apply those findings here, in the tropical chart. Combine and synthe-
size. The planet of highest degree
is now Sun, the natural AK, the em-
powering, ordinating influence. Rahu is
of second-highest degree, so AmK; and
if not Rahu, then Mars; both options
make sense — Mars rules Rahu-4, and
Lord of the 4th (L-4), in the 10th,
trines Sun/MerR/Moon-3.

Sun-3, tredecile3 (108°) AK Saturn-11, opposes Identity-9 (22°Scorpio), as we see at right, where Identity-9 is septsemi-
novile4,5 (7/18 = 140°; some would
allow an orb of ±10°6 and treat this as
inconjunct) Venus-3. Note that all
three Lots of Identity-9 have aspect
with Venus-3, which, again, is focus of the core kite formation:  Core kite formation ... MepR . Plu . ChaR Vx CerR ChrR. Ven Ves

Regarding the inconjunct (150°) between Saturn-11 and Venus-3, then, we have an aspect of tension between objective (AK) and action (AmK) — the 'King' of the chart vis-a-vis the 'Minister' who guides the destiny to attain the King's desires.7 Similarly conceived in the tropical context, or in Lahiri sidereal, we might say Mars-10 AmK engages the creative drive to achieve the desire of Sun-3 AK.

We can develop a YOD formation in this case, with Saturn-11 as one base and the other at the Ketu/ChironR midpoint, proximal the Lot of Identity derived from our earliest birth time (08:45:13 CST, Solar).

Dr. Loretta Standley's interpretations of quincunx aspects and YOD formations are very direct and satisfying:

A quincunx is thought to be one of the most difficult aspects to work with because it will not allow for retreat. There's no backing down when it comes to this aspect because you can't just think your way out of it, you have to take action on those thoughts. The quincunx will challenge you to trust your own intuition. Intuition is a very big deal when it comes to quincunx'. Remember, 2 quincunx plus 1 sextile makes a "yod," which means the "Finger of God." Couple the intuition with the "yod" and you have a blast of intuition coming through to your "I AM" presence. This is your inner voice, which is God speaking to you and through you.

The "Yod" will give you direct clues to opportunities for certain action, although the opportunities can be unconsciously restricted since you are continually making adjustments in your Life. So the bottom line here is [... the] "yod" [...] is telling you to MAKE UP YOUR MIND . . . MAKE A CHOICE . . . THERE'S AN ARROW POINTING AT THE ANSWER . . . CHOOSE TO DO WHAT THE ARROW IS POINTING TO!!!

The planets involved in the "yod" are usually not compatible with each other, so the energy isn't necessarily the easiest. But again, if you look at where the "yod" is pointing, it's a direct hit. Yod's have an element of destiny in their pattern. This pattern is usually bringing forward something that is needed in order to make further progress. Sometimes progress doesn't feel that great going through it, but once the individual has moved through the energy, there is gratitude for the lesson.

Our YOD is also sensible as a kite (aka focused or boomerang YOD, finger of fate or finger of God, one of several in the radix), in this case with apex proximal several midpoints, including Saturn/ID and Pluto/Vertex, and closely conjunct IC and NeptuneR-9. Focus is Venus-3, bracketed by Vesta and MC, conjunct Rahu-4 by extension.

In this pattern, the apex planet opposing the target constitutes, even more than the target itself, a challenge for the chart's owner, who must learn to deal with the energy of the planet as well as with the area in which it is posited. Considerable strength but considerable vulnerability (in the areas of life represented by the target and the apex planets) are on the agenda. THE BOOMERANG. Astrotheme

The wings of the YOD kite, Saturn-11 and the Ketu/ChironR midpoint plus Identity-9 in this case, make evident the necessity for inner work, for the evolution of the egoic function in gestalt under aegis of immanent presence, the need for analysis and conceptual cohesiveness, structural stability in relation with something larger than the self9 and resolution of past wounds, working through identificatory issues in the context of plural personality, the experience of multiple principals in consciousness. So then, what's the importance of the apex planet, here thinking of NeptuneR-9 relative to the Pluto/Vertex midpoint?

The opposition forces the issue, and the apex planet then becomes very critical: what it represents needs to be consciously worked, owned, and integrated. Aspect Patterns. Cafe Astrology.

In the evolution of egoic function among multiple principals both personal and transpersonal in nature, in the context of immanent presence, narcissistic deficit and compensatory egoic inflation are significant problems, as we'll note shortly in description of the shadow presentments in the Purva Phalguni nakshatra of Saturn-11. So, when considering the apex of the YOD kite — Saturn/ID, Juno/Pallas, Pluto/Vertex, and NeptuneR — we can appreciate that egoic needs readily might be conflated with the other-worldly...

Regarding Neptune, from Key Words for ASTROLOGY, Hajo Banzhaf and Anna Haebler (York Beach, ME: Red Wheel/Weiser, LLC; 1996):

  • ARCHETYPE: The mystic, the visionary. the martyr.

  • SHADOW: The crackpot, the addict, the alcoholic.

  • PRINCIPLE: Neptune represents the principle of dissolving boundaries. It corresponds to a person's "cosmic antennas" which permit one to feel the transcendental and the subtle. It allows one to sense concealed correlations, future trends, and other developments. At the same time, Neptune stands for the individual's longing to overcome everyday consciousness and see the highest things. In the process, Neptune's striving is actually directed toward the spiritual realm, but is frequently confused with spirits and other intoxicants. The permeability to which Neptune gives rise frequently results in one of the highest levels of sensitivity and a weakening of the body.

  • STRENGTH: The medium. Strong spiritual aspirations. Deep inner conviction, often based on personal experience, that a divine power is at work in everything and should be recognized as such. Great receptivity and sensibility. Compassionate behavior, characterized by almost boundless sympathy. Idealistic, soft, able to be devoted, and mediumistic. Strong desire for mystic experience. Full of faith in being protected and guided by a higher power. Strong visionary abilities, excellent intuitive understanding, and an unusual wealth of emotional images and imagination.

  • PROBLEM AREA: The drunk or drug addict. Drawn in a dangerous direction by a strong ― frequently unrecognized or underestimated ― inner force. Easily seducible and endangered by addiction, particularly to intoxicants. Also in danger of being overcome and swept away by collective currents, ranging from less harmful trends of the period to the violent excesses of mass hysteria. Falls easily into the role of the victim and the person who suffers, as well as that of the seducer, charlatan, schemer, or liar. Unstable, intangible, unpredictable, destructive, and slimy. Great difficulties in setting limits, up to the point of total identification with other people. Incapable of assuming responsibility for one's own life. Letting oneself drift without any solid ground to stand on. Desperation, melancholy, confusion, self-deception, and lack of orientation.

  • GOAL: The striving to go beyond the limits of the self and merge into a "we" feeling. The longing to be found, touched, and redeemed in trance and ecstasy by the divine. To find true spirituality and be a living witness of the divine effect in the world.

  • REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NEPTUNE PRINCIPLE: Inspired artists, talented actors and actresses, musicians, poets, priests and priestesses, preachers, mystics, occultists, chemists, nurses, doctors (particularly homeopaths), psychologists, trend researchers, forecasters, as well as addicts, the down-at-the-heels, the unstable, swindlers, and criminals.

So now, if we combine the sidereal and tropical reads, we see that both of the YOD and core kites we've described effectively engage the two AmK's, NeptuneR-9 and Venus-3, in dynamics that helps 'distill' the AmK, the work there is to do, in psycho-
philosophical and concrete terms, i.e., with respect to what harmonization might be and how it is achieved, what we receive or conceive at 9 and communicate at 3, which is where the action needs to be. Alternatively conceived, in the anti-clockwise read, Venus-X represents what necessity compels we achieve — as we'll see shortly, interpreting the significance of Venus in Revati, that means enlightenment.

There are, of course, many factors to weight in the elucidation of career or vocation, but the Venus focus here goes a long way. Venus is Almuten Figuris in the tropical and mid-Mula sidereal charts. Clockwise read of Koch Houses in tropical shows ruler of the 10th as Venus in the 3rd, while in sidereal, L-10 Mercury also tenants the 3rd : 10 → 3. Venus is novile MercuryR, which is quintile Spirit-12 (which we'll get to shortly) and, along with Moon, biquintile NeptuneR.

The Lots of Identity and Spirit

Next, applying the sidereal zodiac to determine the nakshatras, we find all three Lots of Identity in Vishakha, the "star of purpose", ruled by Jupiter (Jupiter-5 and PTAH-3 are wings in the Rahu-4/Ketu-10 YOD kite — more on this below). And the motivation: kama. Here we find the theme of metamorphosis or transubstantiation, transmutation... See, e.g., Rudhyar's rendering of Sabian Scorpio 23.

Saturn-11 in Purva Phalguni ("fruit of the tree") gives the power of creative procreation, ruled by Venus and, in the second pada, Mercury — as we've seen, both of these are found in the 3rd. Motivation is kama. While it may denote "denoting brilliant skills in the fine arts and a love of pleasure"8 the shadow presentments go to narcissism, indulgence, arrogance, an "impulsive and disturbed mind"9. A more apposite, ego-syntonic take for me is "A strong hand supplanting political hysteria", M.E. Jones' rendering of Sabian Symbol Virgo 13 (cf. Rudhyar.) The inconjunct with Venus does, however, bring into play the matter of arts and self-expression among multiple principals in personality. It necessitates a great deal of introspective effort.

Venus-3 is in Revati, "the wealthy", going to nourishment and nurturance, "the great womb of the Divine Mother, revealing the end as well as new beginnings" (The Nakshatras, Dennis Harness, 1999:107ff.), ruled by Mercury, motivation: moksha.

Note, there, the motivations. The focus is liberation, but the two predicates are kama, desire, wish, passion, longing, pleasure,10 which is where the theme of self-purification comes into play. What do you really want?
Everything goes to enlightenment — exemplar: Vajrayogini; and Cakrasaṃvara;

Rahu-4 and Ketu-10 are trine and sextile the Lot of Spirit, making the latter the Nodal work-through. Rahu/Ketu square Uranus-2, which is biseptile NeptuneR-9, novile MercuryR-3, binovile Venus-3 and Mars-10, septseminovile Identity-9, and trine Jupiter-5. Uranus-2 is parallel Pluto-12 and semi-sextile Spirit-12.

The Lot of Identity is also a work-through, with as many connections as Spirit-12, but Identity-9 engages a set of dynamics going to metamorphosis, as of the egoic function in context of the group, working toward unified creative expression in response to received awareness and values. Spirit-12, on the other hand, conjunct AC, ISIS-1 and the Lot of Fortune-1, are all in Pushya, "to nourish, providing nourishment", ruled by Saturn, which brings stability and fosters creativity; motivation: dharma.

I would separate these with respect to functional impact, but that something we really can't do.
Spirit-12 is tredecile Identity-9.

In summary...

We have seen that Saturn-11 inconjunct Venus-3 can be apprehended as part of a YOD kite with NeptuneR-9 (AmK) apical orientation and Venus3 (AmK) focus (including Vesta, MC and Rahu-4 by extension). We've said that this formation describes a dynamic that serves to 'distill' the AmK, referring to the process of receiving input (NeptuneR); analyzing (Saturn) and integrating it
ID opposition Sun, Mercury R, Moon. in the context of egoic function and relation with multiple principals under aegis of immanent presence in gestalt; and focusing to action at at Venus-3, all things going to enlightenment.

But we've also seen that 10 goes to 3. And in the matter of what there may be to do next, apart from the work we're already doing, does this answer any questions? Do we, for example, need to get back to painting?

Events at the Vertex come into play, and transiting Neptune-5 opposes Saturn-11 ... seems like a good time for that.

Adjusted radix with slow-mover transit aspect pattern and midpoint foci pointing the Way.
Continuing evaluation during a period of egoic transmutation in gestalt development.

Note: Another aspect pattern forms on the transiting Rahu-3 Ketu-9 axis — natal is Rahu-9 Ketu-3: inverse nodal return took place just recently. This rather kite-like pattern includes natal elements too, with tPluto-6 (conjunct nNephthys) semi-quintile tRahu, biquintile tKetu; and tRahu trine nMercuryR(Bennu)/Moon-11, tKetu sextile. Natal Uranus squares the Nodes, but this 09:32:13 AC is sextile Ketu, trine Rahu. Spirit, more closely so. The transit pattern aptly describes a transformational process in that context, of deep significance in gestalt.

And with respect to the three birth times delineated in our time arc of 23'13" on either side of 09:09 CST, the time recorded on my birth certificate, I am now much more inclined to go with the last in line, taking it as a better read of present time and going forward. Regarding AC, I find mine better defined as Gemini, Cancer, and Leo, intertwined.

Transmutation and the new relocation chart.
Exploring the significance of a metamorphic shift in egoic function and possible developments
using a relocation chart erected from a newly derived birth time.

In Radical Rectification (7-18 Oct 15) we converted our local birth time (recorded on the birth certificate) to solar time: 09:09 CST → 08:45:47 CST, Solar. This result was used to recalculate the radix. Little changed with respect to planetary positions, but the angles and derived points such as Lots showed significant difference. We'd worked productively with the core time (09:09) for many years, but last October a needful change became clear (tJupiter conjunct Saturn) and this new time was construed as an origin, some 23'13" earlier than what I'd taken as true.
The core time wasn't abandoned, merely apprehended anew...

More followed in studies related to or branching from this issue until, in Transmutation (14-27 Feb 16), the previous brief, we came to conclude that another time of birth is apposite, unseen hitherto, in description of the leading edge, of developments present and going forward in gestalt. That new time, 23'13" after 09:09, is 09:32:13 CST, which, when converted as local time to solar, is 09:09.

Working with these three times and their respective angles in the radix has enabled better appreciation of the egoic metamorphosis now at play, as a process in time, conceived as an arc, rather than a point. And while we've spent quite a bit of time evaluating all of them now, each with the others in mind and the span of their significance through the signs — using sidereal and tropical, the arc runs through Gemini, Cancer, and Leo (something we've observed before, that my Ascendant really runs across those three signs) — the nature of egoic metamorphosis in these current transits is not adequately described by any of the three charts. A conceptual connection is missing.

Relocation chart for Ottawa and the time going forward

Ottawa has been my home about 46 years now, and while I've worked with relocation charts using both core and, more recently, origin birth times, the time going forward is of much greater importance in our assessments at this stage.

Presented below are tropical and sidereal relocation charts for Ottawa, using 10:32:13 EST.
The trop geo Porphyry chart shows supporting aspect patterns in the radix and salient transit-natal aspects from tPluto and tSaturn extending over the next few months.

The sidereal Rohini-paksha whole signs charts, D-1 and D-9, provide another perspective as we approach the transition from the (Ashtottari) Mercury to Saturn Maha Dasha, just after my 66th solar return. Note that the Lot of Identity (on the 4-5 cusp) and Pranapada Lagna (6 - 9th from Moon in D-1, 7th from Moon in D-9) are very closely conjunct.

The current period does not involve the same sort of cathartic change most often explored in this Journal, consistent with the build-up and break-down of self-concept in relation with multiple principals in plural personality, and, I might add, consonant with Moon square Pluto in the radix. This transformation is different, more fundamental, feels rather like emerging from a cave, entering a world in many respects already familiar, as if preparations had long been under way, only now being apprehended ... as events take place.

What I've begun to understand is that the scope of our work is shifting from intrapsychic structural and transpersonal focus to the matter of time and unfoldment. More simply perhaps, from purely analytical work to predictive, from reading organization and dynamics to reading patterns of unfoldment...

Rahu-9, Ketu-3 D-1.
Ketu-4, Rahu-10 with Saturn and Md D-9.

Note that Mercury is Atmakaraka (AK) here, with Moon Amatyakaraka (AmK), Saturn Bhatri-karaka (BK), Venus Matri-karaka (MK), etc. As I write these words the Rahu Praana-antaradasha begins in the Maha Dasa of Mercury, which concludes in late May of this year.

In D-1, note also the placement of Saturn with Md and Gk in 2, Mercury and Moon with BB in 10, Sun in 11, and PP in 6. Karakamsa is 12, with Uranus (Mercury/Vayu).

key transits at the inception of a new Saturn cycle three months prior to the 66th solar return.

Shifting birth time in self-transformation.

14-27 February 2016

In the absence of a known, rectified or otherwise reliable birth time we may use a hypothetical, most often noon, to erect a horoscope with no angles. A precise birth time is preferred because it enables more accurate calculation of planetary positions, especially the Moon, and derivation of axes, AC/DC and MC/IC, angles from which, depending upon the system we use, we might establish hemispheres, quadrants, houses, find other points such as the Lots, and frame further interpretations. All personal radices might be regarded as hypothetical, however, in the sense that the precise moment of inception, when the chart begins, is subject to interpretive definition. It may precede the birth and first breath, for example, or follow it. Perhaps it isn't even knowable, or meaningful as a single point in time.

Still, we prefer a starting point. In Radical Rectification, a brief written as transiting Jupiter formed conjunction with natal Saturn, we rectified our recorded (birth certificate) time from 09:09 CST to 08:45:47 CST, Solar1. This new time slightly shifted the luminaries and Mercury but made no significant difference in any of the planetary positions or aspects. The angles and Lots shifted by several degrees, however, and that seemed to clarify certain interpretive anomalies accommodated, requiring tolerance of conflicting perspectives, during years of experience with the 09:09 chart. The rectification appeared to correlate quite well with key events over the course of my life (see Age Point Progression).

In the process of that study we also worked with the Chandra Kundali, the Moon chart — reading the Moon as lagna (AC) or treating its sign as first house. And the Surya Kundali, the Sun chart, which is thought to describe outer-world initiatives, relative to the lunar inner-world. In my radix Moon and Sun are closely conjunct (within 4°30'), with MercuryR in the middle, so Chandra and Surya Kundali are the same. Analysis of the Moon/Sun chart proved especially helpful in resolving other matters of lingering dissonance in radical studies. It afforded new perspective, greater emotive resonance, affirmation and satisfaction. These charts are extremely helpful.

But the birth chart remains central for introspective work, in cognitive mapping, problem identification, and working-through. In this case, rectification of the recorded birth time seemed to establish a point of origin or foundation for me, in a gestalt of multiplicity, and that continues to feel quite solid — a birth time some 23'13" earlier than 09:09. A very interesting result, not based on verifiable fact but inwardly guided sensibility. The number 23 kept coming back to me, and the results have proven to be apposite...

But that rectification has not proved sufficient to frame the current issues, affirmational influences combined with conceptual conundra and action uncertainties conveyed by Mars and the heavy-mover transits now at play in the radix. And work on that problem has resulted in a third birthtime, this one 23'13" after 09:09, thus: 09:32:13 CST (which, converted to Solar, is actually 09:09).

Here's the new chart. And very likely the one we'll work with for some time hereafter.

09:32:13 CST is used to calculate the radix in Porphyry, our preferred system of house division.

Transit date is 24.02.16, but tSaturn Sagittarius and tJupiter Virgo activity periods are extended, with the former entering Capricorn in 12.17, and the latter entering Libra in 9.16.

Aspects are from transit-to-planet because the mapping is aimed at apprehending the impact of current influences in an effort to identify intrapsychic organizational shifts, objective and course leading up to and beyond the 66th solar return. Mercury is Scout planet, with an orbit of 88d, about 3 months, the familiar cycle of self-concept or role identi-
fication we experience in gestalt. This brief began about 88d prior to the solar return. Also note that Bennu is closely conjunct (~13') MercuryR-11.

tMars has opposed the Solar stellium for most of February, but also hit exact conjunction with the Lot of Identity for each of the three birth times we've identified, with 09:32:13 proving to be the most resonant, and the driving force to complete this study. We see that the AC is sensible over an arc of time and degree, showing an origin, a center, and our current reality. Indeed, I find sensibility in a range of ACs, Gemini through Leo.

Origin (Rectified) : 08:45:47 —
MC @ 28°20 Pisces.

Middle (Recorded) : 09:09 —
MC conjunct mean Rahu at 4°37 Aries and about 7° from Venus.

Last (Adopted) : 09:32:13 —
MC @ 10°53 Aries, about 65" from Venus-10, with IC about 4° from NeptuneR-4, the AIR singleton.

The Lots of Spirit and Identity aspect pattern (pale magenta) is an exception, presenting in the radix in result of the new AC at 0°+Leo. Spirit and Identity both positively engage MercuryR and the Nodes.

tPluto-6 is conjunct Nephthys (Lady of the House), squares Venus- and Vesta-10, and NeptuneR-4, but trines Saturn-2, Juno- and Mars-3, as well as Lilith-10 and the stellium(11). It is also inconjunct radical Pluto, our transmuting engine, which is parallel Uranus, which is square the nodes, novile MercuryR, and quintile Saturn. This metamorphosis addresses many issues without core destabilization. It is, rather, a period of reformulation upon review.

Several asteroids named after ancient Egyptian deities are shown in this chart because they're important in the cognitive map. These are not apprehended as archetypes in the Jungian sense, but as descriptors of intrapsychic process and, to some extent, as imagos. Hekate is also included, found with Anubis (conjunct tNeptune) and Jupiter (conjunct tSun) in the 8th.

NeptuneR-4 is accompanied by Pallas (focus of the radical Jupiter-8, Uranus-/Osiris-12, apical Ptah-10 kite formation). NeptuneR is also apical point in our core kite formation, with Pluto-1, ChironR-5, and Vesta/Venus-10.

We have Rahu-9 and Ketu-3. And in Lahiri sidereal we see Mars AK, MercuryR AmK, Moon BK, and Saturn MK.

There were many realizations in the development of this chart, as if from a dream.
And there were many of those, deep and strange, and continue to be...

Identification of the Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto transits in particular, relative to the radix, helped make sensible the anabolic and catabolic forces simultaneously at play, the surprisingly aggressive irruptions to contain and work through, the frustration, the desire to do something but the absence of input as to what I might do, for I do not act alone, and lacking certitude in the dark internal silence of the principals withdrawn, who would confirm their presence, nothing more, and even that in question, I felt alone yet sustained by deeper force, knew that things were changing, that it was important to carry on, be patient, open, assess and adapt new ideas found in the course of studies that seemed peripheral to the questions I deemed paramount, the strain of it increasing, until one night, on waking to a radiant Moon (full at 13:19h on day seven, 22.02), reassured but uncertain how, I knew about time, the importance of 09:32:13 and the framework to reformulate the operational self-concept in a manner consistent with the past but flexible enough to meet the future too — more than a molt, amounting to a transmutation that has now made possible an appreciation of the gestalt in time, not as a point but an arc, much beyond the limits or even the context of what I'd thought the previous design.

Age Point Progression
Radical review, life history overview and assessments for the future.
Applying the clockwise Age Point System described by Andrew J. Bevan in an exercise of life review.

2-6 February 2016

This brief continues the work on life review identified as needful course in the previous study, which focused on the third return of a powerful 30-year Saturn cycle initiated by a transiting Saturn square, and on the resolution of radical interpretive anomalies identified in an earlier brief on the Chandra (and Surya) Kundali. Each entry stands alone, but all three are of a piece, together.

Clockwise Age Point System and Trop geo Radix, plain and simple.

The schema used here is derived from The Age Point System presented by Andrew J. Bevan (2000), Norway. Bevan briefly describes technique and several interpretive strategies in his 9-part presentation, which also includes examples. In short, the Ascendant is directed clockwise, back through the signs, at a steady rate, and is regarded as the Age Point as it forms aspects (chiefly conjunctions and oppositions) with points in the radix, continuing its progression around the chart until it reaches the starting point, at age 60y, after which the cycle continues on the second lap. The chart at right is a basic rendering for my radix. It allows quick assessment. A more detailed study is presented in the large chart that follows.

This system differs from the Huber method, in which the Age Point progresses anti-clockwise and the full circuit is 72 years on return to the Ascendant.

Also, while the Huber only works with Koch,
any system of house division may be applied with the approach described by Bevan.

The clockwise system delivers better results in my experience, and is much easier to use.

Age Point progression in the radix. Tropical, whole signs. Current date: 5 Feb 2016.

In the course of this review I returned to an early work by Tracy Marks, The Art of Chart Interpretation (1986), a fine little book I still appreciate and recommend as primer and overview [PDF]. Next I read through Robert C. Jansky's Planetary Patterns (1977), thinking of chart patterns, the locomotive in particular, and trines. From Jansky [doc]:

Every trine in the horoscope has two mid-points between the trining planets. One point is 60 (sextile) from the trining planets; the other 120 from them. These mid-points are the "points of application" of the trine. Once set in motion, the native capabilities of the trine (the trine's force) finds application in life through the sign and house location of the midpoints. It would appear that the preference in application is given to the midpoint that is trine the two trining planets. The point that is sextile gets secondary preference. If, however, we have a Grand Trine present, either natally or by transit, the emphasis gets shifted to the mid-point that is sextile the trining planets. With the Grand Trine, of course, there are three possible sextile midpoints, but the one that appears to get the most emphasis is the one external to the individual - the one in the widest open area. The thrust of the trine's energies are always from within and outward.

Three trines and their focal points or points of application are shown in this last chart, with reference to the Age Point System and the sidereal nakshatras of incidence. These have proved most useful in the life review still under way.

Chandra Kundali resolves interpretive anomalies in the radix.
Rahu-12 and Ketu-6 from Chandra.
Moon chart placements of planets and points addresses transitional needs and previously unresolved anomalies in the radix.

4-11 January 2016

In recent entries we've been working with the sidereal Lahiri whole signs radix and rectified birth time. This particular configuration places Sun in the 12th, a result not commonly derived; in almost all other formulations, Sun remains in the same house (10th, 11th) and sign (Aries, Taurus) as the balance of the stellium. Yet Surya in bhava-12 has proved an apposite formulation in this period of transition, as recent entries attest.

With regard to my radix, almost every formulation generated to introspective purpose presents one or more anomalous placements of planets or points by sign or house. In the Sun-12 chart we find a frequent anomaly, Rahu-10, Ketu-4 — a placement that makes little sense, is off-the-mark, feels wrong, is an aberrant or irrelevant positioning. Rahu-9 and Ketu-3 are much more resonant, but setting that condition requires a formulation that shifts Sun from the 12th. Placements other than those which most strongly resonate requires tolerance, selective inattention, a leaving-out in light of insights gleaned from different areas of the configuration under study.

But this is a time of change. A different approach is found in response to the developmental imperative.

Chandra Kundali

The Chandra Kundali (moon chart) is of very special importance in Vedic astrology; its application in our current project has afforded important new perspective and effectively eliminated the various anomalies that so often present in such cognitive mapping. At above right we use a simple chart to compare the sidereal and tropical loci of planets and points in whole signs, showing the Chandra Kundali — Moon sign is 1st house. Note that in both cases we find Rahu-12 and Ketu-6 — not the case in the radix but deeply resonant nonetheless. And this result is consistent in all alternative configurations of the Chandra Kundali.

Sidereal and tropical planet and point placements present in different elements and signs, of course, but (with the exception of Sun, MC and Galactic Center) in Chandra Kundali they present in the same houses. And those houses are different from those in the radix — a radical difference, it turns out, that reveals a great deal. Saturn/Juno/Mars in the 5th, for example. And Jupiter in the 11th.

Chandra Kundali and Rasi

The illustration at right combines the Rasi (D-1) and a European-style rendering of the Chandra Kundali, showing the new house loci of planets and points, plus many alternate lagnas and rarefied points. There's an astonishing amount of information here, all of it, to my astonishment, readily useful. There are no anomalies...

There are many ways to approach the concept of 'identity' in cognitive maps such as these. It is better apprehended with reference to several significators, including, e.g., the Pranapada Lagna. In my case, with C-12 Pranapada in radix bhava-10, organization, beliefs and worldview tend to be reconstructed on a continuous basis, in direct relation to the identification, understanding and resolution of internal issues. There's also an Arabic Part of Identity (AC + Sat - Moon, day birth), which I've often found a useful indicator. In sidereal we find it at 20°Libra38', conjunct Pallas (13°Libra30'R), in 8th from Chandra, where, as Pijan puts it, we're dealing with

Dissolution of reliable knowledge and certainty, followed by a new knowledge

  • Catastrophic upheavals destruction and rebuilding of shelter;
  • Cycle of emotional destruction and rebirth;
  • error of unknown followed by new control skills;
  • Emergence of hidden threats to emotional stability and security;
  • Conditions of psychic death; 'virtual' death via tantrik initiation;
  • 8th-from = the angle of Death of old expectations and rebirth into new, more accurate expectations

This Part of Identity presents in Vishakha Nakshatra (20°Libra - 3°Scorpio20'), but I think Swati (6°40' - 20°Libra) is the better fit, ruled by Rahu, deity = Vāyu, Saraswati. "Priest', monk. C-7 :: partnership; vows; psychoemotional model for gestalt...

In the familiar trop geo whole signs radix at right we note the Chandra (C) houses (Moon sign is 1st house), and the focal dynamic of C-12, C-6, C-8.

We have Rahu, Venus and Vesta comprising the Aries complement in 12th from Chandra; Ketu and NeptuneR in 6th from Chandra; with Vertex, CeresR, ChironR, and the Galactic Center in 8th from Chandra. Part of a larger formation not highlighted, a kite, with Amun (C-2) at apex and Pluto (C-4) the corresponding wing to the Aries complement, this dynamic well describes my experience and transformational focus.

Transiting Saturn engagements

The main driver for this period is the square, now nearly exact, between transiting Saturn in Chandra-8 and Saturn in Chandra-5, which is inconjunct Venus, in turn trine tSaturn.

Review and reevaluation...

I find myself engaged in review of internal developments, beliefs and organizational constructs, developed over the past 30 years.

Transiting Saturn entered Sagittarius in November 1985 and reached 9° in March 1986, going retrograde around the 19th.

The first entry in what would become my Journal over the course of the next 12 years of essentially solitary intensive study and analysis, is 5 March 1986.

Transiting Saturn was trine Rahu, sextile Ketu about 15 June 1986, and in December 1986, was at its current locus (12°Sagittarius+), square natal Saturn and trine Venus.

What there is to do...

Again, much is in review as we renew this Saturn cycle in 8th from Chandra, bhava-6. Matters going to gestalt structure and ideas of connectedness, the personal/transpersonal, issues of qi and healing, a multitude of material I've no doubt would prove overwhelming were I able to apperview it all. I sense it, but recognize that the working through must proceed as we are able, in gestalt and relative to whatever without. The 'real' and pragmatic perhaps, the vast illusion, beyond. Which is not new, but challenges again my general view and tests pro tem solutions...

The drive to work through this material is very strong, and there is an intensity about it which requires great patience. Much is being revealed. There is no rush. No place to go. Movement is perfectly slow ... I sometimes need reminding.
